Scholarships and Travel Abroad Opportunities
MSP scholars starting in the Fall of 2015 will receive a renewable semester award of $1,000 (award amount varies depending on school). For a full 4 years of study, your scholarship will total $8,000 (award amount varies depending on school). You are expected to maintain a minimum GPA of 2.5 each semester and complete program activities in order to remain in good standing. Students who do not maintain a 2.5 GPA or do not participate in the program will be placed on probation for one semester, but will continue to receive their scholarship during the probationary period. The MSP may also support you with additional funds during study abroad. While the stipend may vary, scholars could potentially receive an additional $1,000 - $1,500 during their study abroad session depending on availability. The MSP may also support professional development opportunities such as conferences and seminars in your field of study. Funds used for these professional and career enrichments are typically paid through the KU scholarship system.
“The financial support from the program was a great help. I cannot express the gratitude I have for the support. Without the scholarships from the program I would not have been able to afford going through school.” ~ Mike Mayabi, Pharmacy
“The MSP program also allowed me to do things that I never thought I would, such as studying abroad in Italy. This was an amazing experience, and not only impacted my education, but my worldview as well. The program also helped with other school expenses, such as books and tuition, and made school more affordable.” ~ Erika Green, Social Welfare
The KU Multicultural Scholars Program has been privileged to secure the support and commitment from donors who have been and continue to be strong advocates for KU-MSP. Without their support, we would not be positioned to provide the scholarship support that is so vitally important for our scholars. The following scholarships are highlighted to illustrate the wide variety of support that strengthens the KU-MSP. The identified scholarships may be designated by the donor for a specific purpose or program, while others are delegated to generally support the overall goals of KU-MSP.
On behalf of our past and future MSP scholars, thank you for your continued encouragement, kindness and generosity.

Tanaka-Miller MSP Scholarship
The Tanaka-Miller MSP Scholarship was established by Doug and Audrey Tanaka-Miller. The scholarship is for partial support for any MSP scholar who wishes to broaden their horizons or intends to study abroad. In addition, the Tanaka-Miller scholarships are also provided for MSP scholars who enroll in leadership development training, a course, or institute that ideally, compliments and supports their academic program of study. These particular scholarships are available for any of the programs within the KU-MSP. However, scholars must apply for these scholarships well in advance in order for the required paperwork and logistics necessary before departure.
